Yes, duplicating the product is the way to do it, then just deleting the variations you don't want. I don't think it will be a problem re updates... I'm probably going to try it on a new store over the weekend. I'll post if there's any issues...

When researching a new niche or store idea, is it a .com domain or nothing? If your only purpose is to advertise on Facebook etc... does the domain extension really matter? Obviously, I'd stay clear of some of the extensions available today, but you can still pick up some nice one word domains...
