Ekaterina, your statement about child theme should be consistent with Alidropship support team. I was told a number of times by no less than Maria, the Alidropship support manager that I can use Davinci child theme but it is not supported. I witnessed it my self, after a theme update, I cannot open my site anymore, that is when she told me. I asked her again later and she gave me the same answer.

It looks like there has been a misunderstanding. AliDropship plugin supports child themes provided that they have been configured correctly. But our team does not provide support for child theme configuration. In other words, we won't be able to help you configure a child theme.

2. On the right hand side, set the slider's dimensions to 570x359
3. Copy the Shotcode it gives you.

4. Cut all of this out of the front-page.php ...

Replace [supsystic-slider id=2 position="center"] with the one the plugin gives you.

Done.

This will be overwritten with every theme update. I suggest you create a child theme so you can set it and forget it.

Another alternative for Davinci frontpage slider is use GIF for the main image. You can make GIF with images that change with time interval in Photoshop. You can even make the image the whole width removing the two small images in the right. Just add a GIF with 886 x 359 (total width of the main image and the small images) This will remove the small images. This don't have the same functionality of the slider where you can add links, but at least you are working in the customization and is not affected by theme updates.

Another alternative for Davinci frontpage slider is use GIF for the main image.

You can't have the individual images in an animated gif hyperlinked to various categories ... big waste of space in my opinion. Also, an animated gif that size would be pretty slow to load.

Bottom line. Anyone who wants to do proper customisation of the original themes (or any Wordpress theme for that matter) just has to use a child theme. It's quite simple to do.

Here's a basic starter child theme for the Davinci theme with a Supsystic Slider customization already done.

1. Unzip and upload to the wp-content/ themes directory
2. Go to Appearance/Themes and install the child theme
3. Go to Plugins/Add new and search for and install the Supsystic Slider.
4. Import at least 1 pic
5. On the right hand side, set the slider's dimensions to 570x359
6. Copy the Shotcode it gives you.
7. Edit the slider shortcode [supsystic-slider id=2 position="center"] you will find at the top of the front-page.php file.
8. Done!

The style.css file is empty and ready to add any colour changes you want.
Any other original theme files you want to edit/customise ... add them to the child theme directory. Simple as that.

EDIT: I just realised that the style.css file has 1 value in it setting the page background to white. Just delete it ... or delete the entire CSS file in the child theme if you just want to stick to colour changes you do in the plugin's backend. All you need in the child theme for the slider is the functions.php and the front-page.php files.

Note 1: And of course ... you need the original Davinci theme installed. But not activated. Activate the child theme.

Note2: Always update the Davinci theme as normal when updates are available... no need to touch the child theme. The customizations will remain in place. No worries!

Note 3: The only time there would be any problem is if the support changes the name of the front-page.php file like they did a few months ago. It used to be called home.php. OR .. if they make some MASSIVE changes to the front-page.php. In the unlikely event that happens and you can't adapt the changes ... just spend 30 seconds and switch back to the original theme and lose the slider. No big deal.

I have installed a slider with the codes removed and short code added in front-page.php. I am using metaslider which has more options. Thanks for the info, I have been trying to add slider to Davinici theme but failed. Now I have a slider with links to products and the number of slides are growing. Also my slider is the whole width of the original images.

Well done How does it look on mobile? (A large proportion of people access the net via mobile) I remember trying a "whole width" image a while ago and it looked Ok on my laptop, but not so good on my phone and tablet. It was "bearable", but not perfect.

I am using metaslider which has more options.

I used Metaslider originally and it was OK on my laptop, but a little "off" in sizing on my phone. Better check that.

It is working perfect on mobile. I set it to Flexslider, Effect Slide and unchecked the Stretch checkbox. There is a lot of settings in Metaslider, some are not good and the slide transistions are jumpy, not smooth.

I have been using child theme even in my previous website and never have a problem with it. But since I used Alidropship themes, I stopped using it after I encountered this problem after a theme update and was told that child theme is not supported. Then I saw here in the forum that child theme will work even after an update if configured correctly. I can make a child theme in a few clicks, but configure is another thing. I would be happy to use it again to get rid of putting back my customization after an update. I saw this copy of Davinci Child theme you attached here, are you using it now with no problem even after an update? No problem of adding theme files from the parent theme, I can do it.

Thanks for that. I have a few customization in header.php, footer.php and now front-page.php. These are quick to restore when the theme is updated, so I'll just have to stick to the parent theme this time. By the way I just changed my slider to Slidedeck plugin. It has many features including an option to add overlays, social media sharing overlays and call to action button, something other slider don't have. Thanks for the help.

Try it, just play with the setting until you have a good result. Other features are you can disable right click of the slider image, you can also set so that only the call to action button can be clickable to the link or if you want the whole image clickable.

If you mean like the way it is in the stock Davinci theme ... it does not do that. But a title appears at the bottom of each image and you can hyperlink each image to a category or product. (See pic) You add the Title, link and SEO keywords when you add each pic.
