Finding a supplier

Hi,
I am really new at this and am having a lot of trouble finding a reliable supplier who can supply product one item at a time as per customer orders. They say on their listing that they do and when I contact them making my request I don't hear back. The suppliers I am contacting seem to tick all the boxes with regards to reliability and time in the industry etc. What am I doing wrong?????
