Any way to change permalink to custom instead of plain without getting a 404?

Hello,

I'm starting a blog section on my store and for better SEO I changed my permalink structure to www.website.com/%category%/%postname%/. Although, I found that I get 404 errors on all my products. Is there anyway I can have a custom permalink without breaking my store?
