Updating Andy Warhal Theme

Hi, I am using the standard AliDropship Wordpress site. The installed theme is Andy Worhol version 1.2.1. There is a prompt to update to Version 1.3.8. There is a note however which says:

Any customizations you have made to theme files will be lost. Please consider using child themes for modification.

Can I safely update the theme?

If you've made some changes to the parent theme, they can be lost once you update the theme. This is why you should use a child theme for these purposes. With child theme, you can safely update your parent theme and keep your custom changes.
