There is a cool shopify theme that plays on scarcity to it's absolute limit:

You can use timer script from main page to display in product details with its own css colours and whole customization.

That's true, but most of the time users have to scroll down to see it. Based on my visitor recordings, less than 20% of the people actually scroll down to read the product descriptions on my site.
