Question about splitting variations

So if you have a product that has lets say 5 variations, you then duplicate the post so you can split them up. Do you have to leave them as "variable product" or can you change them to "simple product"? Just wondering if auto order etc will work?

Auto order works with supplier info section. You will be able to do auto-order , but you will have to choose variations during auto-order.
