That being said, do not underestimate the power of your oven broiler. They can very closely mimic the char and crust of a well-grilled steak or chicken thigh. The results aren't quite as awesome, but my broiler has scratched many a crusty burger itch felt during the throes of a hard and endless Buffalo winter.

I use mine so much that I bought one for my office kitchen. Only problem I've had is grease not draining properly into the drop bucket pooling in the corner. Love that little guy. I would say it depends on what you're doing with it. The electric allows you to cook nearly anywhere. The cast iron takes up your stove. I like my lodge 2 burner cast iron griddle/grill, but that's what I was looking for.
